Spanky's Run begins next to the original Spanky's Bear Creek Inn, now Shelby's, in downtown Loyal, WI. A firetruck escorts runners south out of town on Highway K to the turnaround points. Water stations are available at both the 5K and 10K turnarounds to keep runners hydrated. During the race motorcycles patrol the route to ensure the safety of the runners. There are also volunteers at all corners conducting traffic and directing runners.
The race finishes near the Lutheran church located a few blocks from the start of the race. Many types of bread (banana, zuchinni, etc.) as well as bananas, water, and beer, are available for runners following the race. Awards and raffles are held in the parking lot as well, following the race.
